Lightning over Toronto

A lightning strike in Toronto's etobicoke area in the west end

_________

This image was taken last night during the thunderstorm around 1 AM. I've been trying to get a shot of lighting since 2006 when I was in Poland. I got the shot, but accidentally deleted it a few days later. Then about a month or two ago - I got lucky while shooting something else and also got a lightning strike. It also got accidentally deleted. I'm really good with keeping images, and being careful when reviewing images but the lightning photos always seemed to disappear. This is why I have been extremely observant of the weather lately. I had to get this lightning itch off my back, and here is the manifestation of that in image format.

Best viewed on white.

River Behind Centraal Station

There river that run behind Centraal Station shot in Amsterdam in 2007

__________

As you can see I am going through my images and "reinterpreting" them. This is from 2007 and was shot on 35mm film (Kodak Portra VC 160). I also mentioned that I like to go back and pinpoint where exactly where the image was taken. I can't wait to get a new camera and start geotagging images. That way I can always go back to a location even if I don't know exactly where it is. Also, if there's a point of interest (such as a restaurant, gas, WC, etc) I can take a picture of it and know it's exact position. That will be plenty useful. Oh does anyone know what this river's actual name is?

Rob Ford (Not) For Mayor Graffiti

_________

First off I want to say that I am not making a political statement by posting this photo - I found it highly interesting. If you look closely (click image to enlarge) on the photo someone has sneaked in a "not" with permanent sharpie. This was found at Queen at Ossington yesterday. The art on these garages changes quite a bit and it's always interesting to see what's new. Here's a Google Street View image probably taken in the summer of 2009 and shows the garages before they were repainted:

As you can see the garage with the satellite dish is the one that currently has the Rob Ford slogan on it.

Koln Street at Night

A street in Koln (Colonge) taken at night in 2007

__________

This was the first city we went to after we left Amsterdam in 2007. I remember that it was a Sunday and we got to the city after most of the stores were closed. Luckily we were able to find a small grocery and picked up food and beer for the night. Later on in the night I decided to take a few images of our view and this is what resulted. When we travel I'm usually pretty good with directions. When I get back to Toronto I try to Google Map the streets to see where in the city I specifically was in. This is one of the locations that I was unable to pin point when I came home.

Self Portrait over Toronto Skyline

Photographer Dennis Mariniak making a scary face with the Toronto skyline in the background.

__________

This will be the last self portrait for awhile. I realized a few months ago that I had no recent photos of myself so I decided to shoot more - now there's too many. I took this after I was done shooting the Fireworks and Smoke over Toronto timelapse as a joke and ended up loving the result. This is all one exposure - done in camera.

From now on you can check the EXIF on the image to find the time and date of the photo. I'm very strict with the time setting as it disorganizes my image library if I don't, so be assured it will always be correct. Also, I'm changing the post layout and am no longer adding the title underneath the image either. It's already at the top and doesn't need to be repeated twice.

Otherwise, expect more writing - sometimes I will go off on tangents, other times it will just be a description or story behind the image. There are also "plans" with regards to photography/video in the future - collaborating timelapses into a story, but that's all I'll mention for now.

Eiffel Tower III

Underneath the Eiffel Tower, a shot in black and white done by Dennis Maricniak
Eiffel Tower III, July 2007
__________

I don't know how this has occurred but this is the third time I'm posting an image of this structure. It's very interesting how many different shots of this structure exist - and yet how they're all so similar but never identical. I also thought that the lighting was copyrighted, but someone told me I was wrong so I'm not sure anymore.
